Ben Carson's Viewpoints
U.S. Presidential candidate Ben Carson may be the farthest Republican voters can get from the typical candidate, a retired neurosurgeon who has never held, much less run, for elected office. Benjamin Solomon "Ben" Carson is a retired neurosurgeon who is a candidate running for president of the United States in the 2016 election. He was born in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Yale University and the University of Michigan Medical School. Carson has written many books on his medical career and political stances and even had a film made on him in 2009.
Health Care
The issue of health care in America is a significant one, the question on many voters minds is should we make everyone have health care or is it a choice. To have health care has been a personal choice until Obama passed the Affordable Care Act requiring people to have health care. Health care is an important issue to Carson because he was a brain surgeon and was in hospitals all his life which lead to his strong belief that healthcare should be a choice to have. Carson believes that “We Must Repeal and Replace Obamacare” because he believes it is not right to force someone to have health care.
Foreign Policy
Foreign policy is a hot topic right now with all the threats from Isis, Americans are worried about their safety. Wondering if we should add more national security on our own land or send troops overseas in harm's way to pressure the outside threats. Carson states that he will “seek to destroy the Islamic State; punish Russia for its naked land grabs; and seek opportunities for cooperation with China while holding Beijing accountable for any violations of international norms” because he believes that it’s the U.S. government's job to keep Americans safe.
National Debt
The national debt is a big issue currently with the amount of debt growing bigger by the day. How do we stop going deeper into debt and start pulling ourselves out. Carson states that “We cannot go on mortgaging our future to wasteful spending and pretend that nothing is wrong. The federal government has been living beyond its means, and it is time to tighten the belt and make wholesale reforms.” This shows that he intends to reform government programs and achieve a balanced budget. Carson says he will get rid of wasteful or inefficient programs and reform the healthcare and welfare programs in order to stop growing the national debt.
