Stop the Madness of Premarital Sex

The U.S. has spent $16 billion on STI’s in the past year. On top of that, the U.S. has also spent $9.4 billion on unwanted teenage pregnancy.

These statistics equate to a daunting amount of money. The U.S. is currently in horrifyingly high national debt, even if the combined total of STD’s and unwanted teen pregnancy is taken away, it would put a small dent in the almost $20 trillion debt total that climbs by the second.

The New York Times released a study that showed 56.4% of women had an STD/STI. This comes as little shock because the American Sexual Health Organization reports that over 50% of people will get and STD/STI in their lifetime. STD’s/STI’s have been a major epidemic ever since the sexual revolution, and have lead to widespread heartache and even death in some cases.

Non-virgins might say that you should be able to have sex and start a family at any age you desire, but the Institute for Family Studies found that married families are slightly better off than their unmarried counterparts.

A fallacy that the opposing side of the argument could make is assuming that advocates for marriage before sex want there to be consequences for individuals who have sex before marriage. However, this is completely untrue, individuals who push for virginity until marriage simply prefer that people don’t have sex before marrying. This is similar to how anti-smoking people prefer people not to smoke, they have no interest in jailing people who persist.

Premarital sex prevention organizations really stress how much having sex before marriage can negatively affect your life, but most let the information go in one ear and out the other. Premarital sex prevention organizations could advertise on billboards and TV commercials in order to promulgate their message more effectively.

“Why do it?” is an age-old question that epitomizes the culture of the 21st century that includes rapid sex, drugs, and alcohol usage, dominating the discussion of things that can ruin a person’s life in a heartbeat.
