Teachers' Pet?

Should teachers have guns at school?Guns at schools can potentially harm another student if they get ahold of the weapon in some way but it could possibly prevent attacks in and around schools due to the fact that teachers have guns. I believe teachers should have guns in schools.

Indiana has already allowed certain teachers to have guns in certain schools. Charles Wilson is a part of the Associated Press of Indiana, and he quotes the Indiana Republican state senator Jim Tomes saying, “‘I believe it really has an immediate effect on these things happening, or at least happening to this degree," Tomes said”(Wilson 5). Tomes agrees that guns in school will bring down the amount of crime around them. Guns. teachers with guns could possibly help kids feel more safe walking home rather than scared because they have no way to protect themselves.

Donald Trump, our current president of the United States, has claimed that he thinks some schools should allow teachers to have guns. Time magazine writes, “Donald Trump on Sunday said some teachers in the U.S. should be armed with guns inside their classrooms.” By stating that all teachers shouldn't have guns is correct. I believe not all teachers should, but there are well-trained teachers and courses that teachers could take to help them with gun use, gun control, and when and when not to use the firearm.

But, on the side that teachers shouldn't have guns, there are a lot of precautions schools would have to take. People question where to store the gun, so kids cannot get it or what would happen if a kid would get ahold of a firearm. Well with guns usually a case comes with it so many people are able to store the gun safely. But if they buy a gun and it doesn't come with a case they can easily pick one up at a Dicks Sporting Goods or a Walmart and some teachers have a cabinet or drawer that have locks on them and if not Home Depot has locks for fairly cheap.

The author on Jacksonville.com does not agree that teachers should have guns. But what I can tell from his article is that he is using the Ad-Hominem fallacy. In his article he states that teachers should not have guns but then says this, “we should be standing up to the NRA and the legislators that have been bought by the outrageous sums of money the NRA is paying to further their own agenda.” The Ad-hominem fallacy is one of the most used fallacies in the world due to the fact that it is so easy to do without realizing it. This fallacy is when a person states their argument about something and then says something attacking a person or a group of people. Like someone saying that football is overrated because of the team owners.

Having guns in schools can be dangerous. Now many question how can teachers keep a gun away from a kid or a parent? Well everything the teacher needs is in their room. If not they can go out to the store and buy a lock for a cabinet or drawer they want to put the firearm in. case with a lock combination on it can be bought at stores so that they can be the only person that known where and how to get to the firearm. Also there are plenty of classes many people take to train to be better with weapons. Also legally no person can carry a firearm on them if they do not have a concealed carry license. They would have to go through certain classes to be able to have a concealed carry licence. If it passes then all the teachers can say “Check out these guns”.
