Body cameras in police force
Body cameras are starting to be used in the police force all over the world because they feel that it makes the world a safer place. They are a little camera that can be placed on the officer's shoulder, head or chest. The cameras are used for other things such as sports but would make the police workforce a safer place for the officers.
Body cameras should be used in the police force due to many helpful reasons. The use of the body cameras can reduce the chance of the public and or the police officers getting hurt. Tsin Yen Koh, the author of an article on Infohio writes, “The study found that the number of incidents involving use of force by the police dropped nearly 60 percent from the previous year to the year of the experiment’. The study he is talking about is a study that was conducted in California, where the police officers would use the body cameras. By using the cameras, it lessened the number of incidents by using force by 60 percent.
Another good purpose of the body camera in the police force is that it can protect the officers from false accusations. Many police all over the world have been accused of something they haven't done. One example of this is The body camera can help prevent that. A great example of this is in the Rialto police department. In an one year experiment their reports of abuse or misconduct went from 21 reports to only 3 reports.
Even though that the cameras are on and recording during the officer's whole shift, it only records the officer’s view of what is actually going on, meaning that it will not record full and accurate details of incidents that the officer's respond to. This also means that not everything that is going on will be recorded, only what the officer’s camera will catch.
Body Cameras for police officers could increase protection for not only for the police officers, but the public as well. The cameras are just little cameras that can be worn on the chest, shoulder or on the head. There is also dashboard cameras that are placed on the police cruisers dashboard. Police cameras have been in use for many years but they are becoming more and more popular around the world.
Body Cameras should be used in the police force. They make the earth a safer place despite all of the negative controversy about the matter. Police and the citizens will live in a little bit safer environment.
