Spider-Man Introduced Into MCU
If you are yet to see this incredible phenomenon, please watch this trailer (p.s. watch until the end).
Since Marvel announced that they were in the production stages of Captain America: Civil War in late 2014, rumors had been circulating on whether everyone's favorite web-slinger would be included in the movie.
On March 10th, Marvel confirmed the rumors when they released the second full-length trailer for the upcoming blockbuster. Toward the end of the trailer, Spiderman is shown “webbing” Captain America’s shield and then takes the shield from Cap, reenacting a huge scene from the original Civil War comic book.
Spiderman has had a few installations in the past. Most notably, the Tobey Maguire trilogy, (2002-2007), which while successful, left a bad taste in comic book junkie’s mouths due to its inaccuracy with the comics.
The most recent series featured Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker in The Amazing Spiderman and The Amazing Spiderman 2. Even though the films stuck to the more comic roots, the weak storylines left much to be desired. With the success of the Marvel movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and his likely team-up with the Avengers, it is a can’t miss opportunity for the web head.
The most recognizable feature of Spiderman is his red and blue suit. From the three-dimension suit that Tobey Maguire donned in his tenure, to the rubber, next gen suit that Garfield wore, Spidey’s suit has changed over the years. The suit that is shown in the trailer reflects the old school spider logo with a more old-school design with some slight changes.
The most obvious difference is the black piping on the legs, under the shoulder, upper shin, and up the side. We are yet to know if that was to add a more realistic look to the costume, or if this is in fact the “Iron Spider” suit that Tony Stark constructed. Also, if you look very closely to the wrists you can see a matte gray device, probably the web shooters. In the comics, it is said that Peter Parker wore a belt under his clothes which contained cartridges of web. This belt is visible on the outside of the suit around the waist.
The design change that has everyone’s attention is the eyes. In the trailer, they move, whether it be controlled by his brain or facial expression is uncertain. When they move you hear a mechanized system, which also points to the Iron Spider theory.
With Spidey’s introduction into Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, it will bring a new way of young fans as well as deepening the already abyss-like storyline in the MCU. With his own movie set to release in 2017-2018, Civil War should keep our Spidey senses tingling until then.
