Recap: 2016 NCAA Tournament
March Madness, one of the greatest months for basketball throughout the whole year. It’s the time that the top 64 college basketball teams fight for the number one spot in NCAA National Championship.
In this year's March Madness bracket, many teams have had phenomenal victories. On March 17th, Yale upset the fifth seeded Baylor Bears in a close game. Some teams haven't been able to make it into the bracket. There are 63 games in the bracket, and many people want to see the Kansas Jayhawks win the finals.
This season, the number one pick for the finals is Kansas and North Carolina. At the rate March Madness is going, it's hard to tell what teams will be in the end. Much love has been spread for all of the teams in the bracket but only one of these heartfelt teams will make it to the finals and return home with a championship win. Fighting your way through six teams in the bracket that have some of the best players in sports is hard for some teams but is a honor for others.
In the past 32 games that have been played just to get into the Sweet 16, many brackets have been ruined based on a lot of games. Michigan State was out in the first round of the tournament. A good amount of people picked Michigan and Xavier to go to the final four and even the championship. Wisconsin is a rank 7 team and they ended the rank 2 Xaviers season in one last shot. But the next game they play is the dominant rank 6 Notre dame to go onto the 8 teams left in the bracket.
There are only 16 teams left including the #1 pick Kansas. In the South, there is #1 Kansas vs #5 Maryland and Miami vs Villanova. In the East, #1 North Carolina vs #5 Indiana and #6 Notre dame vs #7 Wisconsin. In the West, there is #1 Oregon vs #4 Duke and #3 Texas A&M vs #2 Oklahoma. In the Midwest,
#1 Virginia vs #4 Iowa State and #11 Gonzaga vs #10 Syracuse. The sweet 16 is the time to step up knowing that you still have a long road ahead but no matter what happens these teams will fight for the top spot in the Championship.
During the final four only two teams moved on to the final two and these teams have earned their spot in the final two. South #2 Villanova is playing east #1 North Carolina for the final match of the season. This Championship will either be a close game or a blow out and it's hard to tell who will win this match.
This is what happens when two teams are left standing for the finals. Two teams, Villanova and North Carolina will put it all on the court in the NCAA championship. But two go in only one team comes out on top and will hold the winning trophy.
This year's March Madness comes to a close and it will be known as one of the year’s March Madness has been around. The intimidation to cheer for your favorite team was relentless this year. Fans have put their heart in the bracket will either come out a winner or face defeat.
Senior Bronson Swisher, the winner of March Madness at Licking Valley High School, said, “I picked Villanova and North Carolina to win because I always pick 4 teams to go far in the bracket and Villanova and North Carolina are two of them” said Bronson.
On April 4th 2015 Villanova won the NCAA championship with a final 3 point shot from Kris Jenkins in the final second of the game. The Villanova Wildcat took home the championship. This could have probably been one of the greatest upsets in college basketball history. Villanova is now known as the #1 team in college basketball.
