Senior Spotlight: College Just Around the Corner for 2016 Grads

As the final quarter of the school year has started, it is the “final tour” for LV’s seniors. The total number of days for seniors is creeping under 30 and students are beginning to peek behind the veil of life beyond graduation. For several students, the answer next fall is to continue their education at a college or university.

Jeremy McNicol

Jeremy McNicol has been a part of numerous organizations during his four years at LV including: Cross Country, Track, Leo Club, Student Council, Ski Club, Lacrosse, and Renaissance. His future plans include attending The Ohio State University to major in Engineering. When asked of his thoughts about the fall he replied, “It’s [College] weird because you get more freedom and it’s a different lifestyle than our entire lives.”

After conducting his search, he also had advice for other LV students who are thinking of possibly going the college route. “Get started on the process early. Don’t wait,” McNicol commented wryly on the subject.

Sam Lehman

Sam Lehman has also been extremely active during his career at LVHS. A member of Cross Country, Track, NHS, Renaissance, Quiz Team as well as being this year’s Flag Runner, Lehman tries to stay busy. His plans for the fall include studying engineering at highly-touted Purdue University. When questioned as to his expectations for college he simply replied, “The chorus of Tubthumping by Chumbawumba.”

Garret Robinson

Garret Robinson is well known and well heard throughout Valley’s hallways. A varsity letterman in Football, Wrestling and Lacrosse, Robinson has spent his four years here wearing Panther colors with pride. In the fall, Robinson plans to attend Ohio University Zanesville Campus to study for a bachelor’s in Nursing. As the question of the future rose during our interview Garret replied, “I’m spooked; it’s pretty scary.”

Liz Schneider

Liz Schneider is yet another distinguished member of the class of 2016. Throughout her high school career she has been involved in School Play, Musical, Choir, Soccer, Quiz Team, NHS and Chess Club. Liz is also one of the Student Representatives on our School Board. After graduation, Liz plans to attend The Ohio State University main campus to study Industrial Engineering.

“I’m very excited. It’s going to be a challenge and a lot of fun,” Schneider commented in interview. “I’m excited for a new environment.” When pushed for secrets that underclassmen should know when they think about a college future, she said, “Take advantage of every opportunity, and don’t waste your freshman year.”

Luke Kozlowski

Also with advice for underclassmen was fellow senior Luke Kozlowski. A member of the Football team, Renaissance, NHS and Student Council President while in high school, Kozlowski was as involved as they come. Next year he will attend the University of Tampa and plans to major in Human Performance.

“Your first three years of high school are the most important,” Kozlowski advised. “Go on visits sophomore and junior year, don’t wait to start looking until your senior year. Also, apply to as many scholarships as you can no matter how small they are.”

All in all, the future looks bright for LV seniors next fall. Although one world may be ending for them at Commencement in May, a whole new one will open in the fall of 2016.
