Farewell to a Friend
As the 2015-2016 school year comes to an end, we say farewell to the Class of 2016 and well-known teacher, Mrs. McCartney. Mrs. McCartney leaves behind a legacy in the Child Family Consumer Sciences Department. The administration will have a difficult time finding someone that can fill her shoes.
Mrs. McCartney has taught overall for 31 years but has taught at Licking Valley for 23 years. She started out her teaching career at Lakewood before she moved to the Licking Valley School District. While at Valley, she has taught in the Family Consumer Sciences Department which consisted of classes such as Cooking and Family Dynamics.
Mrs. McCartney collaborated with former principal, Mr. House, to create the Freshmen Foundations class. They wanted to have a class that would introduce and familiarize the freshmen with the high school atmosphere. Overall, this has benefitted the high school atmosphere. Mrs. McCartney has proven to be an important asset to the high school.
After she retires, she would like to travel a lot more; this includes Florida where some of her family resides. Before teaching, she stayed at home to raise her three boys. Now that she is retiring she would like to spend more time with her family and her two granddaughters.
As Mrs. McCartney’s teaching career comes to an end, we wish her luck in the coming years. She was an important asset to Licking Valley and will be missed dearly.
We hope Mrs. McCartney enjoys her retirement and enjoys being able to sleep in every day. Licking Valley is losing a great teacher and a great friend.
