Cheer Appreciation
The Licking Valley High School cheerleaders are always doing their best to get everyone in the stands and in the field pumped for the game by making signs, posters, run-throughs and cheering their hearts out!
The Randy Baughman Stadium is home to the Licking Valley Panthers, it is where home games are held and where the cheerleaders get to cheer on the boys.
The girls are always making sure that the boys are doing well and they make lots of things for the players.
Junior cheerleader Sierra Noser says, “We make posters for all of the boys and we make a run-through for their games. All of the cheerleaders ask them how they think the game is going to go and after the game we ask how it went.”
Sophomore Emily McHugh explains that all of the cheerleaders have to make food for at least one of the games. But when the boys eat the food, they rarely leave any for the cheerleaders.
After sending out an anonymous email, and getting many responses many people have different opinions about the cheerleaders. One student writes “Love them, going to games is so much fun with them there and I just live off the excitement and school-spirit they give off.” Other students aren't so kind, “[They’re] just there to look pretty. I know the football team doesn't like them”
Many of the football players do not talk or communicate in any way with the cheerleaders. Sierra tells me that, “The boys never thank us for what we do. I have only had one player tell me that the poster I made was cool, but the boys rarely even look at them.” The cheerleaders get upset at the fact that the football players do not thank them in any way. The boys even tell the girls that they are annoying during practices.
Students at Licking Valley wish that the cheerleaders would “have more spirit and actually look like they want to be cheering. They should cheer in front of the student section as well.” Others say that “the cheerleaders already do the best they can do with supporting our male athletes.”
Though the students have mixed feelings about them, the cheerleaders truly do their best to support our Panthers and to make sure our school is always ready for games. In the end, no matter what the football players think about the cheerleaders, they should still be appreciative of them.
