Gary Johnson the ‘Lit’-ertarian
Gary Johnson was the Governor for New Mexico. He ran for the Republican vote and ended up getting re-elected. Then, in 2012, he ran for presidency, got declined, and then became a Libertarian.
For this election, Johnson didn’t get enough votes to be in the debates with the other candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. As a Libertarian, Gary Johnson has a few major issues, which are: abortion, immigration, drugs, war and civil rights like gay marriage.
Abortion
Abortion has been a big issue lately in the news and all across social media. There have been a lot of arguments over whether or not it should be legal. Gary Johnson's views on abortion are that it should be up to the mother to make the decision if she wants to carry the fetus to term or not.
He also supports the other half of the decision to ban late-term abortions. A late-term abortion is where there is a specific amount of time before the woman can get an abortion.
Abortions are important to the presidential election is a nationwide conflict because while there are laws for it, it is controversial due to religious beliefs With Johnson being a Libertarian, he believes that the government should not be involved in a woman's decision on abortion.
Gay Marriage
Gay marriage has recently been a significant topic this past year not just because of the elections, but as in the LGBT community has recently gotten rights. Gay marriage hasn’t always been legalized, but just recently on June 26th,2016, it was announced legal in the U.S. This was a massive deal because 1 out of every 10 people belong to the LGBT community.
It is important because if our president is not supportive of gay rights, he will not make a good impression to our people and our country. Gary Johnson would make a good president because he supported gay marriage before any other Democratic leader did.
Gary Johnson supports gay rights; he made the statement that individual liberty includes supporting gay marriage.
Immigration
Immigration is when people from other countries permanently move to a different country. Illegal immigration is when people come into a different country without government permission.
Immigration is important to the election because everyone is talking about it, and there are very different sides. Our country is built upon immigrants from other countries, so this is a very relevant topic to our country.
Gary Johnson thinks that immigrants are beneficial to our society. He stated he does believe that immigrants can be empowering for our country, but does recognize that not all immigrants have smart intentions.
