The effect of bad parenting
What is a bad parent? Is it someone who neglects their child? Is it someone who gives them too much attention? Is it someone who abuses their child? Personally, I believe a bad parent is all of these.
Bad parenting is affecting children of all ages, even when the parents don’t think that it’s affecting their child.
Children can end up with anxiety, depression and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), depending on how bad the parents are taking care of their children.
A school survey was sent out about what students thought was great in a parent, and what was bad in a parent. One student expresses, “I think a good parent should obviously love their child enough that they would be willing to make sacrifices for them if what they desired was positive. They should also be well involved in their child's life, such as knowing how their child is doing at school, who their friends are, and whether they are being bullied or not. They also should be some sort of a disciplinarian, but they shouldn't be the overly strict parent or an abusive one.” [sic]
I agree with this statement because I also live in a household where my parents are lenient on things I do, but are still strict when it comes to important things like school, which is something that could make or break the rest of their lives.
When they were asked, “What qualities do you think a bad parent possess?” a student stated, “doesnt listen to you and always says no”[sic].
I personally only agree with half of this statement because when parents don’t listen to their children it makes them feel left out and want rebel to get their parents attention. It could be something little like going out after midnight with a boy or even more serious like trying to harm themselves.
But the “always says no,” is a hit or miss. I believe there should be ground rules in a parent and child relationship. A parent that is constantly telling you no about everything like hanging out with friend or going out with different family members is more a controlling parent.
But if they are telling their child no about doing drugs or going out to party with alcohol. That is something a parent should say no too unless they are at the age where they are allowed to do so.
Overall, the effect of bad parenting is a serious subject to talk about. There are many different factors to it but no parent is perfect in the end. Just respect them and they will respect you.
