Three Days Grace review

Three Days Grace is a Canadian rock band from Norwood Ontario. Originally they were know as "Groundswell" while in high school in 1992, they released the album “Wave of Popular Feeling.” The band’s line up consisted of lead vocalist Adam Gontier, the drummer, Neil Sanderson, bassist, Brad Walst lead guitar, Phil Crowe, and rhythm guitar, Joe Grant.

Most of the members were attending high school when the band formed. But by the end of 1995 they had broken up. Three days grace got together in 1997, the line up consisted of Adam still doing vocals, Neil as drummer and Brad as bassist.

They released their first album, “Three Days Grace” in 2003 and shortly after recruited Bary Stock as lead guitar. Three Gays Grace was picked up by Gavin Brown shortly after they had reconnected with an old manager.

After their song “I hate everything about you” was released on the radio Three Days Grace rise to fame soon followed as Jive Records signed them with their label. They stayed at Long View Farm, a recording studio in Massachusetts to finish their debut album. After releasing two more hit singles “Just Like You” and “Home” Adam soon became addicted to the drug Oxycontin.

After the tour for their first album was over he checked himself into the Center for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), while receiving treatment Gontier began writing lyrics of how he felt while he was there and after completing treatment, the band found a suitable place for recording in Ontario at a cottage. After three months they had finished recording for what is now their second album “One X” to which Adam had contributed the lyrics on how he felt while in rehab. The album was released June, 13th 2006.

After releasing 2 more albums “Life Starts Now” and “Transit of Venus” Three Days Grace announced Adam Gontie was leaving the band On January 9th 2013. It was abrupt and Gontie said he was “simply ready to start a new chapter in his life.” Just a couple weeks later Brad Walsts’ little brother, Matt Walst (from the band My Darkest Days) joined the band and replaced Gontie as lead vocalist.

I recently sent out a school wide survey asking students if they knew who Three Days Grace is, how they felt when Gontie left and how they felt when Matt replaced him as well as if they would still listen to Three Days Grace, 62.1% of people know who Three Days Grace is and some are more strongly attached the the band than others saying “I heard their song "I Hate Everything About You" and I was immediately hooked.” and “I listen to MCR alot and it was in the suggested videos on youtube.” [sic]. 37.9% of people do not know who Three Days Grace is, saying “Don't know the band” [sic] or simply stating “I've heard of them, but I've never listened to them."

The graph above shows the student’s responses when asked if Adam Gontie leaving made the students mad 12.1% said yes, 9.1% said no, 60.6% said they didn't know he left and 18.2% had mixed feelings on the matter.

Even though Adam left the band and Matt Walst replaced him as lead vocal 40.9% of the students said they would still listen, 30.3% said they would not and 28.8% said they might. As it stands it seems like the 40.9% really enjoy the band to this day.
