Is there to much pressure on girls to have the perfect body?
Females often think that their bodies define who they are, but that's not the case at all. Starting at a young age girls are pressured to have the perfect bodies. A Barbie-like figure: have you ever see a curvy Barbie? That's because they don't make them; even the my little pony toys are dolled up more than they use to be. Little girls want to be like the barbies they idol, this in turn pressures them to be perfect like they are, which doesn't always work out, but beauty isn't defined by the size of their jeans.
Society set standards way too high for girls, it's next to impossible to live up to their standards, According to New York Times, More than 80% of 10-year-olds are afraid of being fat, a girl's self-esteem drops at age 12 and doesn't bounce back until age 20. The pressure society out on young girls could damage them for the majority of their young years.
Some would argue that it doesn't put pressure on females because they don't have to be like the people they idol. While this may seem true, it's not because you can't tell a little kid, not to want to be like their idol, its what they do, plus it's not just their idols it's everywhere, on magazines, tv, online, All these models are super thin so these girls are going to feel like they need to be thin.
If we give young girls these toys, they will continue to think that super thin is what your expose to look like but in reality, according to Teen Ink the weight of a model is 23% less than the average woman.
Self-image is a big problem in today's society, but it doesn't have to be. If toy companies and media outlets would portray all sizes and shapes of woman as beautiful then we wouldn't have a problem. For example, we could make barbies in all sizes, not just thin, we could make magazines hire more than just super thin models, and make them stop using photoshop, we could make a change.
