World Connectedness

A good majority of people are connected digitally. Most people get their news from social networks like Facebook. Although this is convenient, it’s not always the best thing for everyone to be connected. Everyone being digitally connected can cause problems and it’s not a good idea.

One thing about everyone being connected, is that people can get psychological effects by being on the internet too much. The University Of Michigan showed that Facebook actually makes us more depressed. The reasoning behind this is because on Facebook, you’re always looking at other people's life. Leaving you to wonder if you’re living a fulfilled life.

Another problem with everyone being connected digitally is that a lot of people use the internet as their main news source. People have been for writing fake news articles. Many people purposely write these fake articles in search of money. One example of fake news articles occurred at the Comet Ping Pong ( a pizzeria). Someone had written that they were harboring kids as sex slaves. A 28 year old father of two, Edgar Welch, had read this article and took action. Welch went on a six hour drive to check out was going on. He had fired an AR-15 like gun. When police arrested him, they found a handgun as well. Luckily no one was hurt.

Although, everyone being connected is a bad thing, there are few positives. One example is the ALS Ice bucket challenge . Many celebrities and citizens partook in this challenge. The point of this challenge was to raise awareness of the disease called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. This disease is a nervous disease that weakens muscles and impacts your physical function.

This is why the world being digitally connected could be a overall bad thing. People are spreading fake news which is causing violence. It’s good in some ways that we are all connected but overall it’s a bad influence on our everyday life.
