2016-2017 Vocal Impact Competition Season

Where there’s smoke. . . . The one liner that pumped the crowd as well as the members of Licking Valley ‘Vocal Impact’ Show Choir. The theme for this year’s competition show was fire, and the songs performed slowly built the fire, within the lyrics, costumes and hearts of the performers.

Throughout the 2016-2017 season, the performers, combo, crew, and director of Vocal Impact worked to make the show as good as it could be and came out with many awards. At their first competition of the year, which occurred at Beavercreek High School in January, the choir placed 1st runner up in their class, and 2nd runner up at their second competition which took place at Marion Harding High School.

At their 4th competition, hosted by St.Clairsville High School, the choir competed in finals and placed 3rd overall while also taking home the People’s Choice and Best Costume awards. And though they did not place at their final competition- hosted by local Sheridan High School- the Guitarist, Elijah Maggard was awarded with the “Best Band Feature” award.

Throughout their season the choir worked hard, practicing twice a week for two and a half hours, and this practice paid off, for some, in a large way. Maria Hayes, junior, took home 3 “Best Performer” awards by the end of the season, Brian Diaz, sophomore, took home one “Best Performer” award, and Noelle Stevens, sophomore, took home one “Best Performer” award.

The songs that were performed include “Moving In The Dark” by Neon Trees, “Something Big” by Shawn Mendes, “Burn” by Ellie Goulding, “I See Fire” by Ed Sheeran, “Fire Under my Feet” by Leona Lewis, and “Just Like Fire” by P!nk. The Licking Valley ‘Vocal Impact’ Show Choir will continue on for many years to come, and they are sad to see their seniors go, including Dean Conrad, Mikey Truex, Carly Hurst, Sam Tudor, and Shelby Embrey, but wish them the best on their next step in life.

The 2017-2018 competition show theme has yet to be announced, but we’re sure it will be great.
