The Beginning of a New Season
The Columbus Crew soccer team has just taken off on their 2017 season, taking the number one standing for the MLS Eastern Conference. With 5 games already being played, they have 3 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie.
There has recently been a new addition to their team. Kekuta Manneh, a forward, was just recently traded with Tony Tchani, a midfielder. Tchani will now be playing for the Vancouver Whitecaps, which is where Manneh had played for, for over 4 years.
Kekuta Manneh was born in Bakau, Gambia but just recently received his US citizenship this past January. After receiving his citizenship, head coach Bruce Arena called him into the US National Team Camp in California where the Columbus Crew soon acquired him. Manneh will now be wearing the Columbus Crew colors, black and yellow, along with number 19 on his back.
Junior Ashley Schmoll, avid fan of the Columbus Crew team, said, “I’m excited for the team this season especially with their new addition to the roster. I can’t wait to go to one of their games.”
The team still has 30 games left, finishing the regular season on October 22nd. Every game dedicated fans show up, despite the weather, to cheer on their favorite team. With the new addition to the team, there are hopes that the Columbus Crew will come out on top this season.
